Applications are invited for a permanent post of a Professor of Infectious Disease / Consultant in Infectious Diseases within School of Medicine, University College Dublin.

The University and Hospital wish to expand academic leadership in Infectious Diseases by attracting an outstanding clinician scientist with an internationally competitive profile in research, training and education. The appointee will join Ireland's largest university at the country's leading academic teaching hospital.

Both parties are committed to building collaborative programmes involving the community of academic and clinical staff to further develop the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital as an internationally recognised clinical centre of excellence in Infectious Disease Medicine that enhances the quality of care for Irish patients.

The UCDProfessor of Infectious Disease will be based at Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, where they will be an academic leader working with colleagues to oversee the design, delivery, assessment and quality of modules and programmes for undergraduate and graduate students. They will be an experienced clinical leader who will contribute to the development of a state-of-the-art Infectious Diseases clinical services at the Hospital and across the island. The appointee will have a particular interest in global health, high consequence infectious diseases and complex infection in HIV and non-HIV immunocompromised hosts.

Clinical Care

The candidate will be a fully trained specialist in infectious disease medicine eligible for registration in the Specialist Division of the Irish Medical Council Register of Medical Practitioners. They will have the necessary experience to lead a clinical service at Mater Misericordiae University Hospital that builds on and complements existing care services and clinical innovations.

Research

The appointee will have an excellent, world-class track record in clinical translational research, a proven ability to attract substantial extra-mural research funding and an ability to build and lead a productive research team. They will develop an internationally competitive programme of novel research and build research collaborations with other investigators in the University, the Hospital and beyond.

Teaching

The successful candidate will provide academic leadership in infectious disease medicine teaching at both an undergraduate and a postgraduate level. They will be responsible for the discharge of UCD infectious disease teaching at the Hospital and will also be expected to supervise post-graduate students taking higher degree courses and contribute to the design and delivery of campus graduate taught programmes in Infectious Diseases. The appointee will have experience in the design, development and delivery of high-quality educational programmes and be familiar with modern pedagogical methodologies.

Salary: Health Service Executive [Pay scale - Academic Consultant Type B]

Successful candidate will be appointed on the appropriate Salary scale at the first point in scale or in line with current Government pay policy and commensurate with experience
