Post Doctoral Researcher

Updated: over 1 year ago
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 11 Sep 2022

We are seeking a full-time post-doctoral research fellow for a 24-month contract funded by the Science Foundation of Ireland (SFI) Frontiers for the Future Programme (SFI-FFP). The postdoctoral researcher will be in charge of the design and development of a unique glycan 3D structure database named GlycoShape-3D, and of its integration in an online platform. The GlycoShape.ie web interface will also provide to the community tools complementary to the database, to facilitate 3D-protein glycosylation and rapid glycoanalytics, and will be ultimately integrated within a world-wide network of glycomics and glyco-bioinformatics applications, providing key 3D insight into the roles of glycosylation in protein structure and function. The team working on the project is led by Dr Elisa Fadda, Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Maynooth University. Dr Fadda is an expert in computational and structural glycoscience and the PI on the grant (20/FFP-P/8809 FADDA). The project involves two PhD students, already in place, and a team of high-profile international collaborators, leaders in glycoanalytics through mass spectrometry, glyco-bioinformatics, statistics, and machine learning. Extended visits to the collaborators’ labs are also covered by funding. Dr Fadda’s lab is located in the Hamilton Institute at Maynooth University (https://www.maynoothuniversity.ie/hamilton), which also hosts the SFI Centre for Research Training in Foundations of Data Science (www.data-science.ie), and a vibrant and stimulating research community.
