Post Doctoral Researcher

Updated: 12 months ago
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 23 Apr 2023

The Role

Maynooth University is committed to a strategy in which the primary University goals of excellent research and scholarship and outstanding education are interlinked and equally valued.

The Department of Media are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to partake in the European Commission CERV-funded project Gender Equality through Media Investigation and New Training Insights (GEMINI). The project has a number of academic and non-academic partners from across the European Union.

The GEMINI project blends research, training and policy-making activities which: (a) starts from knowing and understanding how popular culture – spreading stereotypes and/or negotiating sociocultural models based on the value of gender equality – influences young adults’ opinions and attitudes; (b) reshapes the results from research in educational tools for training and piloting activities, in particular creating/reinforcing awareness and critical approach about gender equality through the same tools (that is the audiovisual media) which often contributes to spread gender stereotypes; (c) translates the research and training results into suitable guidelines, addressed to EU/national institutions, and audiovisual media service providers, in order to contribute to the definition of policies in matter of gender equality as well as to enhance the project’s long-term exploitation. This overall approach also stands out thanks to GEMINI’s being “young centred”: indeed, the European young adults stand out as the GEMINI main protagonists, both from a reflexive perspective (what they think about the gender issue and due to which representations they develop their opinions and attitudes) and an active one (young adults as gender equality drivers), and both in research activities and in training ones.
