Applications are invited for a Temporary post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 2 within UCD School of Public Health, Physiotherapy & Sports Science

As the 'boom' in biohacking, lifelogging and data fetishism shows no signs of abating, the aim of `Cerberus-The Wearable Watchdog' is to empower users of wearable technologies (e.g., Fitbit bands, Garmin devices and Apple Watch) with a better understanding of their own health and well-being regarding: 1) what these devices can measure accurately; 2) what is actually worth measuring.

Cerberus will evaluate the validity of wearable devices and the credibility of claims made by companies about currently available products and biometrics. The three 'heads' of the project include.

  • A synthesis of existing research
  • Validation of products
  • Understanding users' experiences
  • This project is funded under the `Future Digital Challenges' theme of Science Foundation Ireland's National Challenge fund. This is an advanced research focused role, building on your prior experience as a post-doctoral fellow, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator.

The primary purpose of the role is to develop new or advanced research skills and competences, on the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications and scholarly dissemination, the development of funding proposals, and the supervision and mentorship of graduate students along with the opportunity to develop your skills in research led teaching.
