Applications are invited for a permanent post of a Library Communications & Public Engagement Manager within UCD Library.

The mission of UCD Library is to be a leader in enriching the student experience, to empower global engagement, and to act as an intellectual centre for the UCD community.

UCD Library consists of 5 libraries, UCD Archives and the National Folklore Collection. UCD Archives, Special Collections and the National Folklore Collection house collections of national importance for use by the UCD community and external researchers. The Library supports teaching and learning, research, and wider engagement and is a leader in delivering a high-quality student experience that places students at the centre of service development. It is constantly evolving to meet the needs of a growing campus population.

UCD Library and UCD Estates Services are currently working on the transformation of the James Joyce Library building. This is the most ambitious Library capital project since the construction of the JJL in the 1970s and 1980s and represents the most significant investment in the building. The project is aims to meet the 21st century needs of students, researchers and faculty, and to increase engagement with wider communities.

The Communications and Engagement Manager will report to the Associate Librarian, Director of Cultural Heritage and have responsibility for coordinating UCD Library’s communication and engagement, at an extremely exciting time of change and development for UCD Library. The successful candidate will work with colleagues across the Library to articulate a strategic vision for all Library communications and engagement that takes account of the University’s key priorities, the current Library Strategy, and the requirements of the capital project. They will lead on creating and delivering a shared operational plan for successfully delivering this vision.

The successful candidate will be someone with excellent communications and engagement experience, and a track record in leading teams through change. They will have knowledge of significant trends that impact libraries, as well the requirements to deliver world-class communications and engagement. They will be resilient and flexible, comfortable with a fast-paced environment, and able to work proactively and independently during uncertainty.

Following the launch of UCD Library’s Strategic Plan, `The Library of the Future’, https://www.ucd.ie/library/contact/strategy/ the library is currently reviewing how its organisational structure can best deliver its strategic priorities. Consequently, the successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate flexibility in their role and responsibilities as the library buildings and organisational structure changes.

95 Admin Off Ia\2013 (2010): €66,369 - €77,555 per annum

Appointment will be made on scale and in accordance with the Department of Finance guidelines
