Lecturer / Assistant Professor

The Department of Ancient Classics in Maynooth is happy to advertise a full-time post in ancient history, at the level of Assistant Professor / Lecturer, starting from 1 September 2022. The post will be initially filled for a five-year period (2022-2027) and is designed to aid the Department in rebuilding after recent retirements. Experience in the recruitment and retention of students is therefore a priority: the ideal candidate will be a dynamic and engaging teacher, with extensive experience in designing individual modules, programmes, and teaching materials for ancient history, broadly construed (e.g. political, social, religious history).  Experience of having taught Roman history (of any period) is essential, with the ability to teach Latin being also highly desirable. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the Department’s postgraduate programmes, supervising MA and PhD students, and bolstering the research culture of the Department and Faculty.

Salary

Assistant Professor / Lecturer (Post 1995*):                    €55,397 – €87,724 per annum (7 points)

Assistant Lecturer (2021):                                                     €35,246 – €61,595 per annum (14 points)

Appointment will be made in accordance with the Department of Finance pay guidelines.

*New entrants to the public sector will be appointed on the first point of the Assistant Lecturer (2021) payscale or the Lecturer (Post 1995) payscale.
