Applications are invited for a Permanent post of a Lecturer / Assistant Professor in Bioinorganic Chemistry and Organic/Medicinal Chemistry or Chemical Biology within UCD School of Chemistry

The School of Chemistry is located within the modern UCD Science Centre, with access to well-equipped laboratories and state-of-the-art facilities, bringing together a vibrant community of students and researchers. The School contributes to the suite of science-based undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes offered at UCD. In addition, it has a long-established track record in research and innovation in molecular science, hosting staff with expertise in the fields of Inorganic, Organic and Physical Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Chemical Biology, Sustainable Chemistry, and Nanoscience, as well as Chemistry Education. This contributes to a dynamic environment that fosters excellence in both teaching and research. Our staff maintain strong links with indigenous and multinational pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, medical devices, electronics, and materials companies located in Ireland which help stimulate entrepreneurship, support technology transfer and facilitate effective education and innovation partnerships. The successful candidate will have research interests at the interface of Chemistry and Biology, in areas such as Bioinorganic Chemistry/ Medicinal Chemistry, Chemical Biology or Biomaterials Chemistry. These interests could include, but are not limited to, the development of synthetic organic methodology, the synthesis of compounds of biological interest as potential drugs or probes, and the development of biomaterials or drug delivery systems. These could include, but are not limited to, the study of metal ions in biological systems, the use of inorganic compounds as probes or drugs for biological systems, and the study of the function of metalloproteins through inorganic models that mimic their behaviour and may have potential in small molecule activation or energy storage. The School of Chemistry has strengths in synthesis, catalysis and carbohydrate chemistry and has a keen interest in expanding our medicinal chemistry and chemical biology research. Applicants with research interests that align with potential collaboration/funding from industrial sources and that complement the research groupings within the School are particularly welcome.
The candidate will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and curriculum development for our BSc, MSc and PhD programmes, will supervise and perform cutting edge research and contribute as required to administration of the school.

95 Lecturer/Assistant Professor (below the bar) Salary Scale: €35,598 - €62,210 per annum
Or
95 Lecturer/Assistant Professor (above the bar) Salary Scale: €55,951 - €88,601 per annum

Appointment will be made on the appropriate scale in accordance with UCD and Department of Finance guidelines.
