Updated: about 1 month ago
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 21 May 2021

From September 2015, Maynooth University commenced a project to introduce the innovative Critical Skills courses for first-year students. The aims of the Critical Skills courses are to provide the best possible transition to higher learning and to strengthen students’ critical skills in analysis, numeracy, and communication. Central to all Critical Skills courses is a weekly small class environment with task-based learning under the direction and guidance of a class tutor.

The main duties of Critical Skills class tutors are to teach a number of weekly classes of around 20-25 students, and to promote the aims and vision of the Critical Skills course by delivering high quality teaching and contributing to the effectiveness of the overall teaching team.

The teaching approach will be developed by a course team comprising the course leaders and class tutors. Critical Skills is multi-disciplinary, so class tutors will have to comfortable teaching outside their own discipline. Tutors will undertake initial training and receive ongoing support as a member of a community of practice. The specific nature of the course requires tutors who are enthusiastic about the course aims and are able to respond creatively to the challenges of teaching on the course and to deliver the course materials in a stimulating, thoughtful, and engaging manner.

We are now seeking four tutors to participate in the delivery of these courses.
