Applications are invited for a Permanent post of a Associate Professor in Small Animal Clinical Studies within UCD School of Veterinary Medicine


This is a permanent position as Associate Professor in Small Animal Clinical Studies based in the UCD School of Veterinary Medicine. The appointee will complement an existing team of five Small Animal Internal Medicine, one Oncology, two Emergency & Critical Care and five Small Animal Surgery Academic Staff within the Small Animal Clinical Studies Section.

The UCD Veterinary Hospital includes state of the art equipment including CT, MRI, interventional radiology, full endoscopy, laser and a radioactive iodine suite.

Applicants must hold a degree in veterinary medicine registrable with the Veterinary Council of Ireland or a specialist degree for which an application for limited registration with the Veterinary Council (see www.vci.ie) could be made.

The successful applicant must be an active specialist in Small Animal Internal Medicine or Cardiology with European (ECVIM) or American (ACVIM) board certification. Applicants who are active specialists in neurology (ECVN/ACVIM) may also apply. Consideration will also be given to applicants who have competed their specialist training and are eligible to obtain such qualifications .

The successful candidate will contribute effectively to the Section of Small Animal Clinical Studies and the UCD Veterinary Hospital and in particular, will participate fully in undergraduate (clinical) teaching, in postgraduate residency training, and in the clinical service provided by the Veterinary Hospital. The successful candidate will also engage in original collaborative research leading to publications in peer-reviewed journals, and in obtaining funding and fostering collaborations, both nationally and internationally. The grade of the appointment will reflect the level of achievement across the themes of clinical expertise, clinical teaching, academic activity and research. It is expected that clinical service and related instruction will contribute approximately 50 % of the appointee's effort, with the remainder being devoted to teaching, administration and other scholarly activities.

Salary:95 Associate Professor (7941) €72,731 - €102,712 per annum

Appointment will be made on scale and in accordance with the Department of Finance guidelines.
