The School of Languages, Literatures and Cultural Studies (SLLCS) warmly welcomes applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Digital Humanities and Culture. The successful candidate will join a dynamic interdisciplinary team and will be a key member contributing to teaching and research excellence and innovation.

This post is full time, 3-year fixed term.

The assistant professor salary scale is €38,719 - €94,031. Appointments will be made in line with public pay policy and salary is non-negotiable. Please note that New Entrants to the public service in Ireland will start no higher than point 8 (€54,566).

SLLCS is one of the largest of the twelve Schools in the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences and has a vibrant and diverse community of over 140 members of staff and c.2000 students. The School is home to seven disciplines (French, Germanic Studies, Irish and Celtic Studies, Italian, Hispanic Studies, Near and Middle Eastern Studies, Russian and Slavonic Studies) and many interdisciplinary staff, research centres and programmes (Comparative Literature, Digital Humanities, European Studies and Identities, Forced Migration, Intercultural Communications, Literary and Cultural Translation, Medieval and Renaissance Studies, Resistance Studies). The School enjoys a very high international reputation in its teaching and research and attracts highly qualified and motivated students from Ireland and internationally. Since its inception, it has consistently been ranked in the top 100 Modern Languages Schools in the QS subject rankings. It is currently ranked 57th in the world in Modern Languages and 46th in Arts and Humanities.

The TCD Centre for Digital Humanities (DH@TCD) is internationally recognised for its contributions in research, teaching and service.  Our 10-year track record of externally-funded research projects covers a wide range of topics, with particular strengths in the development of research environments and infrastructures for the digital humanities, and the application of digital humanities insights to wider social, cultural and technical challenges (critical digital humanities).  The Centre also feeds its expertise into Trinity’s Postgraduate Programme in Digital Humanities and Culture, which is based in the School of Languages, Literatures and Cultural Studies.  This one-year programme, which can be taken as a PG Certificate, PG Diploma or full Master’s degree, introduces students to the basic discourses, contexts and tools of the field, preparing them for a wide range of professional and research opportunities.  The Centre also hosts doctoral, postdoctoral and visiting researchers, as well as contributing to a wide variety of academic and public outreach events.

Applicants MUST provide the following information when applying for the post:

  • A cover letter outlining how their experience makes them suitable for the role (2 pages max.)
  • A comprehensive curriculum vitae, including a full list of publications.
  • The names and contact details (i.e. addresses, e-mails, etc.) of three referees.
  • A research plan (summarising research to be carried out in the next three years and including details of funding to be sought – 2 pages max.)
  • A teaching statement (summarising teaching philosophy, and experience – 2 pages max.)
  • A sample syllabus of 3 potential original modules, including at least one introductory programming course, that could be offered in a research-led context, plus a separate list specifying areas of expertise that could be covered in terms of research-informed teaching.
