About Deakin’s GIFT City Campus

Deakin is the first University in the world to open an international teaching campus in India. The state-of-the-art campus will open in mid-2024 in the heart of the smart business district, GIFT City (Gujarat International Finance Tec- City) and will give students access to Deakin’s future-ready postgraduate courses aligned with local employment needs.

Deakin’s world-class course offerings on campus will initially include the Master of Cyber Security (Professional) and Master of Business Analytics, before expanding to other degrees from the faculties of Science, Engineering & Built Environment, and Business & Law. Teaching will be delivered primarily through face-to-face lectures and supplemented by digital platforms, with teaching being supported both onsite in GIFT and  from Australia.

To support our teaching and research activities at the brand-new campus in GIFT City, we are looking for three highly motivated Lecturer/Senior Lecturer’s in Information Systems and Business Analytics.

As a level B Lecturer, you will:

  • Assist in the integration of industry and research practice to inform unit/course design and teaching practices.
  • Participate in teaching teams to develop courses and materials and collaborate to produce innovation in curriculum design that support diverse learners.
  • Provide academic support to students within units.
  • Contribute effectively to a culture of educational excellence and engage collaboratively with fellow academics within the teaching team, and update colleagues and students on developments in their subject area or specialisation.
  • Initiate, design and conduct high-quality research activities generating high-impact outputs
  • Widely communicate research outputs to discipline(s), other sectors and the community, nationally and internationally, ensuring impact in the field and the community translate into real-world impact.
  • Build a national reputation, based on a growing, focused body of work recognised for quality, excellence and impact.
  • Assist the implementation of local citizenship activities and contribute to effectiveness as an influencer.

As a level C Senior Lecturer, you will:

    • Lead the integration of industry and research practice to inform unit/course design and teaching practices across the discipline within the Department.
    • Lead teaching teams to develop courses and materials and innovation in curriculum design which influence teaching for the discipline or across multiple disciplines.
    • Lead review of units and courses and implement refinements.
    • Integrate creative and/or innovative teaching practices to improve student success and engagement.
    • Make significant advances in knowledge within their specific fields/areas of teaching scholarship and pedagogical research activity.
    • Lead growing, increasingly productive, high-quality research, and scholarship activities generating high-impact outputs.
    • Engage in and increasingly develop and lead academic or other collaborations that enable novel and high-quality research activities.
    • Attain sustained national and building international reputation as an emerging world leader, based on a significant and growing focused body of work, recognised for quality, excellence and impact.
    • Demonstrate sustained and growing track record of timely delivery of outcomes for industry partners, with growing national recognition.
    • Provide leadership and contribute to the development of the University’s community engagement agenda and community engagement activities.

Selection Criteria

To be successful for a Lecturer position you’ll have:

    • PhD in Information Systems, Business Analytics, or a closely related discipline. PhD candidates who expect to submit their thesis by June 2024 are also encouraged to apply
    • Emerging reputation in research and scholarship with evidence of an emerging program of research, peer-reviewed publications in leading journals, and a pipeline of research-in-progress which is targeting high-quality journals such as the FT50 list, ABDC A* journals, AIS Basket journals and the UTD journal list.
    • Expertise in at least two of the following areas of research specialisation within the Department: information systems; business analytics; business analytics and decision-making; machine learning; digital innovation, transformation and disruption; digitally-enabled globalisation; digital entrepreneurship; IT and business value; digital health; artificial intelligence and the future of work.
    • Expertise in at least three of the following areas of teaching focus within the Department: business analytics; information systems; artificial intelligence for business; digital transformation; machine learning; data science; cyber security; enterprise systems; project management.
    • Experience in applying for competitive external research grants.

To be successful for a Senior Lecturer position you’ll have:

  • PhD in Information Systems, Business Analytics, or a closely related discipline.
  • Nationally and internationally recognised research reputation underpinned by publications in quality journals such as the FT50 list, ABDC A* journals, AIS Basket journals and the UTD journal list.
  • Expertise in at least two of the following areas of research specialisation within the Department: information systems; business analytics; business analytics and decision-making; machine learning; digital innovation, transformation and disruption; digitally enabled globalisation; digital entrepreneurship; IT and business value; digital health; artificial intelligence and the future of work.
  • Success in obtaining external research grants.
  • Positive engagement with research, community, industry and government to enhance the national standing of the discipline.
