I. Job Title: Director of Research.

II. Job Description:

The Director of Research will spearhead all research endeavors across multiple campuses of the Cancer Institute (WIA). Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing a comprehensive long-term vision to establish national leadership in select areas of cancer research and formulating strategic plans for its realization.
  • Establishing a world-class cancer research facility at the proposed new site in Gummidipundi, a suburb of Chennai, adhering to global benchmarks.
  • Overseeing the robust academic pursuits within the research division, including:
    • Introduction of new medical and paramedical courses.
    • Facilitating faculty appointments in alignment with esteemed institutions like Dr. MGR Medical University/Madras University to attract research-oriented individuals.
    • Identifying training needs and organizing relevant courses for faculty and staff.
    • Orchestrating meetings, seminars, workshops, and conferences to foster knowledge exchange in the field of cancer research.
  • Cultivating partnerships and collaborations on a national and international scale to advance the institute's vision.
  • Spearheading fundraising initiatives to support the execution of research plans.
  • Assuming overall administrative responsibilities for the Research Division.
  • The primary objective is to secure an exceptional leader capable of driving groundbreaking research initiatives critical to the institution's future and its contribution to global/national knowledge.
  • ​​​​​​​III. Selection Criteria:

  • Medical Doctor with a Ph.D. from a reputable University (Optional).
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in lab research.
  • Clinically relevant translational research within distinguished institutions.
  • Demonstrated track record of high-quality original publications in leading research or medical journals, indicative of substantial impact.
  • Proven leadership acumen, particularly in nurturing and developing emerging researchers.
  • Preferably below the age of 60.
  • Open to the possibility of a joint appointment with the candidate’s current institution, with a suggested commitment of at least 75% to the Cancer Institute (WIA) for the initial 3 years to attract top-tier candidates.
  • IV. Location: Initially based at the Cancer Institute (WIA) premises in Guindy/Adyar, Chennai, with relocation to Gummidipundi upon completion of facilities.

    V. Remuneration:

    Requirements for establishing the Institute and remuneration are open to negotiation.
