Postdoctoral position in experimental astrophysics

Updated: 4 months ago
Deadline: 15 Jan 2024

We are advertising a three-year postdoctoral researcher position at the Science Institute of the University of Iceland with a focus on the development of next-generation microwave telescopes. The researcher will join the CMBeam project team funded through a grant from the European Research Council.

The primary aim of CMBeam (http://cmbeam.com/ ) is to develop advanced algorithms, measurement systems, and methodologies that are critical to the design and calibration of next-generation telescopes used to study the cosmic microwave background (CMB). Our efforts include the construction a state-of-the-art cryogenic holography facility for the purposes of testing optical systems of current and future experiments.

These efforts can be developed in the context of existing CMB experiments that group members are participating in, including but not limited to the Simons Observatory, the Taurus balloon-borne experiment, and LiteBIRD.

The postdoctoral researcher is expected to collaborate with other physicists, both at the University of Iceland, as well as other institutions across the world, including Europe, the US, and Japan.

The proposed work can have components from a combination of instrumentation, microwave measurement techniques, pipeline development, and data-analysis.
