The Department of Engineering is looking for a faculty member in the areas of simulation-based design and additive manufacturing. The successful candidate is expected to take a leading role in research, teaching, and industrial collaboration in these fields, and to be active in developing a centre for additive manufacturing. We are looking for a faculty member who has the inclination to work with a broad range of colleagues in various engineering disciplines and in related fields.
The position can range from Assistant Professor to Full Professor, depending on the current qualifications and position of the applicant. Promotion to a higher rank is subject to a formal assessment according to university regulations. We especially welcome international applications and applications from women, who are underrepresented in the department.
Relocation assistance is available. Reykjavik University is a bilingual university where courses at the master's level and a high ratio of courses at the bachelor's level are taught in English.
Duties
- The successful applicant will teach approximately 3 courses per year and is expected to advise MSc and Ph.D. students
- The faculty member is expected to develop courses within the field of specialization
- The faculty member shall be able to develop and obtain funding for research projects and carry them to fruition, successfully mentoring graduate students and post-doctoral researchers.
- The faculty member will also be expected to take part in administrative and outreach duties at the Department and University levels
- The faculty member is expected to take an active role in building and managing additive manufacturing facilities and fostering collaboration with the industry
Requirements
- A doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing or Materials Engineering or related fields is mandatory
- Expertise in simulation-based design and additive manufacturing
- Demonstrated ability to carry out independent research of high quality is preferable
- Experience in teaching is required, and experience in designing and organizing courses is desired
- Experience of working with industry partners is preferable.
- Experience in additive manufacturing for biomedical applications is advantageous
- Interpersonal skills and the capability of working with diverse teams in disparate fields are desired
