Opportunities for cardiovascular research for highly motivated and qualified doctoral students, post-doctoral fellows and research associates are available at the Department of Physiology of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Iceland starting as soon as possible.

Location

The University of Iceland is situated in the heart of Reykjavík, the capital of Iceland and the worlds northernmost capital. Reykjavík is situated by the Atlantic Ocean and surrounded by mountains and many of Icelands natural treasures are within easy reach from the city, such as the Blue Lagoon geothermal spa; Gullfoss, one of the most famous waterfalls in Iceland; the great Geysir geothermal area; and the Thingvellir National Park, the home of our ancient parliament, Althing.

Current projects include work on non-coding RNAs, on the interplay between biological sex and inflammation in myocardial hypertrophy, and on the effects of a novel compound against anticancer drug-induced cardiomyopathy.

This is an outstanding opportunity to work in the cardiovascular field with secured funding. The salaries for the positions will be in accordance with the current collective wage and salary agreement between the trade union and the Minister of Finance. Depending on the position and previous experience, gross monthly salaries range from 3000 to 4000 EUR. In addition, the Icelandic government offers the incentive of 30% tax-free annual income for 3 years, if requested.
