The CEU Democracy Institute (DI), based in Budapest, strives to enable the renewal and strengthening of democratic and open societies through world-class research, collaboration across academic and professional disciplines, teaching and the free exchange of ideas, and public engagement on a local, regional, and global scale.

The CEU DI invites applications for a Research Assistant position in the De- and Re-Democratization Workgroup.

Your key responsibilities:
The new colleague is expected to aid and carry out administrative as well as research-oriented tasks, some recurrent, others occasional, for the Workgroup on De- and Re-Democratization (DRD) and its Lead Researcher. These tasks include, for example, assisting the organization of academic events, providing orientation to fellows and visitors, liaising between DRD/DI staff and other CEU units, compiling and updating lists of publications and conference presentations by DRD members, supporting their dissemination, and assessing the environmental impact of the Workgroup. The Research Assistant will work closely with both DRD academic and DI administrative staff.

Your skills and experience:

  • BA degree
  • At least 3 years of experience in supporting research activities, and/or working in academia
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Fluency in English both in writing and orally
  • High-level computer literacy (Office 365, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Ability to work effectively, both independently and collaboratively, in an international team.

  • Full-time or part-time work (negotiable) until July 31, 2023, with a strong possibility of an extension

  • Integration in the De- and Re-Democratization research group of the Democracy Institute in Budapest, including professional mentoring by senior researchers.
