Central European University (CEU) invites applications for a Payroll Coordinator position at the Human Resources Office at the Budapest Campus.  Our future colleague will be partially responsible for the payroll in Hungary and in Austria ( approximately 500 CEU employees, in cooperation with the Austrian payroll provider), shadow payroll, and all other related tasks for CEU’s employees  – in cooperation with other team members.

 

Duties and responsibilities 

  • Processing full-scale payroll tasks, including absences, and benefits calculations.
  • Managing, supporting, and controlling changes in NEXON (salary, job, cost center, change of hours, etc.).
  • Managing, supporting, controlling, and completing the monthly and annual payroll duties.
  • Managing payroll deductions including tax, pension, and social security contributions; preparing all statutory monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
  • Processing and calculating salary increases and paybacks.
  • Maintaining an efficient, accurate, and up-to-date filing system, including archiving of records as appropriate and in accordance with CEU’s policies.
  • Setting up new employees, processing terminations, and related payments.
  • Liaising with employees across the university at all levels (staff and supervisors) on payroll-related queries.
  • Liaising with authorities and partners (Austrian payroll provider, NAV, NEAK, Pension Funds).
  • Preparing proper statistics on labor.
  • Managing, controlling, issuing employer certificates, among other certificates.
  • Continuously developing professional knowledge to improve the overall performance and teamwork of the payroll team.
  • Researching the best technical solutions for efficiency and best practice purposes.

 

Skills and competencies 

  • At least two years of demonstrated relevant experience in payroll, including in recent years.
  • Excellent knowledge of Hungarian payroll legislation.
  • Basic knowledge of Austrian payroll legislation.
  • Good knowledge of the English language (verbal and written).
  • Experience with NexonBér and/or NexonTime.
  • Basic knowledge of Excel.
  • High-level accuracy.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Self-initiative and the ability to work independently without requiring daily supervision.
  • Ability to carry out manual calculations.
  • Highly motivated with excellent organizational skills.
