The Yehuda Elkana Center for Teaching, Learning, and Higher Education Research (Elkana Center) at Central European University (CEU) invites applications for an Instructional Designer position from candidates with experience in instructional design, educational technology, and other relevant backgrounds. The Instructional Designer draws on their pedagogical and technical expertise to collaborate with Elkana Center colleagues, CEU faculty, doctoral students, and TAs in designing and developing blended and online learning experiences, particularly within CEU’s access and non-degree programs. Furthermore, the Instructional Designer provides consultations, trainings, and support related to course design and learning technologies. Therefore, we are looking for someone who has a learning-centered design approach with substantial understanding of higher education pedagogies, as well as of relevant technologies.

 

The initial contract is maternity cover and is fixed-term from January 15, 2024-August 31, 2024.

 

Your duties and responsibilities:

 

The duties of the instructional designer include the following:

  • Collaborate with the Elkana Center team and other CEU members in the development of blended and/or online courses and curriculum, particularly within CEU’s access, non-degree, and university preparatory programming.
  • Design course layouts and digital assets (e.g., instructional videos, interactive content, graphics) with a focus on user experience and accessibility.
  • Provide individual consultations and support to CEU members in course design and digital technologies.
  • Facilitate teaching development workshops and events related to current trends in course design and learning technologies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Your skills and qualifications:

 

  • Master’s degree in educational technology, instructional design, education, or related discipline,
  • Proficiency in instructional design principles and tools,
  • One or more years of experience in designing and developing online and blended learning experiences (experience during studies is applicable, though professional experience post-degree highly desired)
  • One or more years of experience in creating digital learning assets (experience during studies is applicable, though professional experience post-degree highly desired)
  • Demonstrated technical experience with learning management systems (Moodle preferred), 
  • Demonstrated experience with a combination of the following: graphic art programs (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite), interactive content creation (e.g., HP5), sound capture and editing, and/ or instructional video production,
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, ability to collaborate with people in different positions.

 

Desirable qualifications:

 

  • Experience working in a higher education environment as an instructional or learning designer and especially, experience collaborating with faculty or academic staff,
  • Experience providing training or individual consultations in a higher education environment, 
  • Training in or experience with project management,
  • Training or experience with implementing digital accessibility practices (e.g., WCAG 2.0 AA, Universal Design for Learning) in online and blended learning environments,
  • Experience with web-based web design,   
  • Experience in working with refugees, asylum seekers, or others from traditionally underrepresented or marginalized backgrounds.

 

What CEU offers:

 

We offer a competitive salary starting from 50,000 EUR annual gross salary, pro-rated for the time of employment. A higher salary is possible if warranted by the candidate’s working experience.
