The Development Office at CEU invites applications for a Development Assistant position.
CEU’s Development Office (DEVO) is responsible for securing philanthropic support and developing strategic partnerships to help sustain the university and ensure that CEU has the financial resources needed to continue to innovate through its undergraduate and graduate education, research, and community engagement programs. The office works primarily with high-net-worth individuals, corporations, and foundations, whose philanthropy complements revenues from a variety of other sources. The Development Team works with current and potential donors to identify mutual interests and support investments across the university while liaising with faculty and staff to demonstrate the impact of these contributions.
The Development Assistant plays a key role in meeting rapidly accelerating fundraising targets by ensuring the effective and efficient functioning of the Development & Alumni Relations Offices as the university implements its next strategic plan.
The Development Assistant may also supervise student assistants as needed.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Assist frontline fundraising: Provide administrative and logistical support to fundraising staff. This includes:
- Research and preparation for high-level briefings, correspondence, and meetings, including developing briefs for CEU leadership
- Tracking of CEU’s pipeline of prospects and proposals and management of reporting calendar and moves management
- New and existing donor cultivation and stewardship strategy support and implementation
- Development of high-quality donor reports and communications, particularly related to scholarship and individual donors
- Dept. & program liaison to track student progress and successes for donor reporting purposes
- Point person for CEU giving website and Development SharePoint intranet site
- Responsibility for departmental digital media, including content creation and online donor / prospect engagement
- Periodic review and advising to keep CEU current with trends in online donation / fundraising mechanisms
- Data entry to ensure all fundraising activity is accurately recorded in the Raiser’s Edge database
- Calendar management and meeting/event support for external donor meetings and events, including donor recognition and cultivation events, alumni gatherings, the Alumni Leadership Forum, Philanthropy Week programming and others.
Office administration:
- Correspondence and ancillary document preparation related to grant proposals, grant reports and donor compliance, including various schedules related to US government funding
- Timely gift processing in accordance with CEU’s policy on contributed support
- Database subscription management and annual evaluation of available tools
- Monitoring team compliance with international regulations, including data protection, keeping abreast of best practice
- Regular evaluation and improvement of fundraising systems and processes and assistance with the annual budget planning and quarterly monitoring processes
- Maintain and update mailing lists in MailChimp and Constant Contact and administer large and small-scale mailings
- Gathering agenda items and preparing weekly team meeting and quarterly office retreat agendas
Requirements:
- English fluency at native or near-native level
- Bachelor’s Degree
- At least 3 years in an Administrative or Executive Assistant role, or comparable experience
- Knowledge of German is a plus
- Fundraising and/or higher education experience is preferred
- Communications, digital media, and/or marketing experience a plus
- Excellent writing, editing & communication skills in English
- Experience with designing engaging and visually appealing content in PowerPoint or Canva
- Tech-savvy with proficiency with SAP and other database and mailing tools; skilled in all Microsoft Office applications
- Exceptional organizational skills
- Ability to multi-task, work independently, and meet strict deadlines within a fast-paced environment
- Outcomes focused, solution-oriented and flexible
- Energetic and self-motivated
- Detail- and efficiency-oriented
- Ease and confidence in working with people – both internal and external stakeholders, including high net-worth individuals, business leaders, and philanthropists from all over the world

Compensation
We offer a competitive salary that is commensurate with experience, as well as a dynamic and international academic environment. The initial contract is for one year with the possibility of renewal.
