The Central European University (CEU) Department of Cognitive Science concentrates on social and biological aspects of human cognition: how learning, processing, and sharing information about and with others takes place, and how computational models of human cognition can be realized in the brain. Students and faculty undertake interdisciplinary research drawing on psychology, neuroscience, philosophy, mathematical modeling, linguistics, and the social sciences. The department conducts research and also offers a doctoral program.

CEU invites applications for a Department Coordinator position in the Department of Cognitive Science at the Budapest Campus.

The Department Coordinator will be responsible for the smooth running of the doctoral program and will support and guide students during their study cycle regarding academic and non-academic issues. The position may involve some office management duties.

Your duties and responsibilities:

  • Advising and assisting students and faculty in all fields of their academic life
  • Organizing academic events
  • Liaising with university offices related to the academic life of the department including Student Records and Admissions, Budget Office, Library, Research Support Office, Communications Office and all the other units and departments of the University
  • Conducting financial administrative support tasks related to the department budget, invoicing, procurement, student insurances and grants, audits, in close cooperation with the Budget and Finance Office and other support units
  • Responsible for the daily administrative duties of the department
  • Managing the departmental facilities, the departmental website and the email lists
  • Responsible for the departmental ethical processes and approvals

Your skills and competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree (minimum)
  • At least 3-5 years of working experience in a position with similar tasks ideally in higher education or at an international company
  • Ability to work independently and to keep strict deadlines
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and to prioritize
  • Proficiency in using Office 365 and MS products, databases and experience web-search platforms
  • Ability to balance sensitivity towards student needs with ensuring student adherence to university and program regulations
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English is a must. Good command of German is an advantage
  • Good financial administration skills and ideally familiarity with SAP
  • Discretion when dealing with sensitive/confidential information
  • Multicultural orientation and open-mindedness
  • Previous work experience at CEU is an advantage
  • A positive personality and proactive customer service attitude is needed
