The Department of Environmental Sciences and Policy at Central European University (CEU) invites applications for a communications and media specialist to support the newly elected Vice Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), Diana Urge-Vorsatz, who is a professor at the Department, in her communications and media activities.  


 


Your duties and responsibilities:   


The successful candidate will provide communication support to the IPCC Vice Chair in her media and social media presence. Their responsibilities will include: 


  • developing a communications and social media strategy  
  • reaching out to national, international and internet-based media outlets and arranging interviews 
  • helping to translate complex climate change related scientific materials into well-accessible and interesting content, in cooperation with the Vice Chair and her science assistant 
  • developing regular and consistent social media presence related to the IPCC and climate change science 
  • demonstrably increasing the media, and especially the social media reach of the Vice Chair and IPCC materials 
  • systematically monitors appearances across media channels, analyzes data, and derives insights to inform the development of effective communication strategies 

 


 Your skills and qualifications: 


The successful candidate  


  • has a master's degree in any field, with science-related fields being an advantage  
  • experience in communications 
  • has excellent media contacts, ideally also in international media 
  • has a strong interest in and ability to digest complex scientific knowledge 
  • has a track record in being able to increase media and social media reach 
  • an interdisciplinary background is a plus, or a demonstrated interest and experience in digesting complex scientific publications in a broad diversity of fields 

 


What we offer: 


We offer a competitive salary up to 50,000 EUR per year supergross, depending on residence and contracting arrangements, as well as a dynamic and international academic environment and the possibility to gain experience with top-level academic teaching, IPCC, scientific communication and institution building.  


The initial contract is for seven years in Austria; in Hungary different rules apply.  


Freelancer arrangements will also be accommodated.
