The Department of Gender Studies at Central European University (CEU) invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Gender Studies with expertise in Feminist Literary Studies and a focus on world literature. We strongly prefer a candidate with additional specialization in digital humanities and/or visual and sound studies. The candidate is expected to have a strong theoretical grounding in gender studies and a research agenda which crosscuts one or more of the following: digital humanities, translation studies, film studies, ecocriticism, postcolonial literature, (post)socialist literary studies, critical race theory, and diaspora and migration literature.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Developing and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, supervising MA and PhD theses in the above areas. The department serves a global student population. CEU also has newly established interdisciplinary BA programmes, which provide the possibility for limited undergraduate teaching and supervision
  • A willingness to design and instruct new methodological courses at the MA and PhD level
  • A firm commitment to inclusive instruction and mentoring for a diverse international student body is expected
  • A clear and active research agenda and a commitment to regularly publish in major professional venues
  • Administrative tasks at departmental and university levels

Your qualifications:
A PhD in gender studies, literature, history or related disciplines in hand by the start of employment, and a track record of internationally recognized publications commensurate with the applicant’s career stage.

What CEU Offers:
We offer a yearly gross salary of 62,500 EUR as well as additional benefits (e.g., pension plan, sabbatical system).
The initial contract is for 6 years renewable and can be turned into an indefinite contract depending on the outcome of a review.
