The Department of Legal Studies at Central European University invites applications for 2 faculty positions (one Assistant Professor and another Associate/Full Professor) in human rights and comparative constitutional law. We seek colleagues with an active research and teaching agenda in these fields. The Department values interdisciplinary research and practical experience.
The Department of Legal Studies provides advanced legal education in human rights, comparative constitutional law and global business law. Our students are encouraged to see complex legal and social problems in their broader context and seek solutions across continents and disciplines. Candidates are expected to have expertise in one or more of the following core areas:
- Human rights systems of the Council of Europe
- Refugee and migration law and policy
- Civil and political rights from comparative constitutional law and human rights perspectives
Additional expertise in one or more of the following areas is an asset:
- Environmental and climate law and justice
- African human rights systems
- Institutional (comparative) constitutional law
Your duties and responsibilities:
- Teaching and advising students at bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels in the areas mentioned above
- Teaching in interactive class settings and in English
- A clear and active research agenda and a commitment to regularly publish in major professional venues.
- Administrative tasks at departmental and university levels
Your qualifications:
- Law degree and PhD focused on human rights law and policy
- Candidates with professional experience in their field of expertise are particularly encouraged to apply.
What CEU Offers:
For Assistant Professorship, we offer a yearly salary of 62,500 EUR, and the initial contract is for 6 years. The contract is renewable and can be turned into an indefinite contract depending on the outcome of a review.
For Associate Professorship, we offer a yearly salary of 79,000 EUR, and the initial contract is for 4 years. The contract is renewable and can be turned into an indefinite contract depending on the outcome of a review.
For Full Professorship, we offer a yearly salary of 96,000 EUR. The contract is for an indefinite term.
We further offer additional benefits for all three types of posts (e.g., pension plan, sabbatical system) and a dynamic and international academic environment.
