DEPARTMENT OF GEOGRAPHY

The Department offers a vibrant and collegial academic environment for research and teaching. It currently has a
team of about 15 academic/teaching colleagues from various cultural backgrounds and over 200 undergraduate and
postgraduate students. The Department places strong emphasis on high-quality and impactful research, particularly
on research that informs social and environmental policies and advances knowledge in and beyond the discipline.

The Department is now recruiting an Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in physical geography with primary
expertise in health-related research. Various areas of specialisation will be considered including but not limited to
medical geography, biogeography, and soil science.

Applicants should possess (i) a PhD degree in Geography or a cognate discipline and conduct lab-based research and
teaching on health implications of environment, ecology, water/air quality, or pollution in urban environment; (ii) a
track record of high-quality publications; and (iii) Successful record in securing competitive research funding would be
considered an asset, as would interdisciplinary research experience. Priorities will be given to physical/natural science
candidates who have worked at a top-100 university or research institute outside of Hong Kong.
Outstanding candidate may be nominated for appointment under the Global STEM Professorship Scheme of the Hong
Kong SAR government.


The appointee is expected to teach in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes as well as supervise student
research projects at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
This is a tenure-track position with initial appointment on a fixed-term contract of two to three years commencing
September 2022. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to mutual agreement. Tenured appointment is expected
to be attained within six years.


Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Outstanding candidate at Associate Professor level may be considered for tenure on appointment.
