Categories: Professoriate Staff

Applications are invited for appointment as Professor in the Department of Architecture (Ref. 525859), to commence on September 1, 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter on direct tenure.

The Department of Architecture is internationally recognised as one of the world's most reputable architectural schools.  The Department prides itself on providing a rigorous and dynamic research environment, with scholars and professionals who have a diversity of research interests.  Staff members take an active part in shaping the Department's culture through both teaching and administrative responsibilities as part of both our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.  Our international community of students come from Hong Kong, Mainland China, Asia, and across the world.  Information about the Department can be obtained at http://arch.hku.hk .

Applicants should have internationally recognised standing in the discipline of architecture, and a demonstrated record of research and teaching excellence in Architectural Design and/or published scholarship in architectural history and theory.  The appointee will also be expected to teach architectural design studios, lecture courses and/or seminars, supervise postgraduate students and conduct research.  More generally, the appointee is expected to provide academic leadership, and enrich and enhance the Department’s international standing through excellence in their teaching, research, and/or practice-based expertise.

The successful candidate should be able to position their work in relation to the region’s broad scale and breadth of case studies, which offer an exciting array of innovative design- and research-related possibilities.  The Department’s research laboratory structure presents additional opportunities to work across disciplinary and expertise-specific boundaries to develop collaborative research projects and other potential forums for exchange.

For enquiries about the post, please write to Dr. Eric H. Schuldenfrei, Head of the Department of Architecture (e-mail: [email protected] ).

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.  The appointment will attract a University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.  Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.

The University only accepts online applications for the above post.  Applicants should apply online and upload an up-to-date C.V., a cover letter, a one-page teaching statement, a one-page statement on advancing diversity and inclusion, the contact information of three senior academics who are familiar with the applicant's teaching background, skills, experience, and a research and teaching portfolio (less than 20MB, 20 pages maximum).  Review of applications will commence as soon as possible and continue until April 21, 2024 , or until the post is filled, whichever is earlier.
