Project Title: English Learning Support Programme for Primary School Students with Dyslexia

[Appointment Period: 24-36 months] 

The appointee will provide research support to a project which aims to develop and implement a tiered intervention model: supporting the learning of English as a second language for primary school students with reading and writing difficulties. He/Shewill design and carry out research studies, evaluate the effectiveness of intervention programmes and assessment tools, and oversee research procedures such as study design, protocol development, participant recruitment, data collection, data management, and data analysis. He/she will work closely with Professor Kevin Chung and other top researchers/professionals within and across universities and NGOs. Also, the appointee will present findings in both academic and non-technical ways, in both English and Chinese, so that both professionals and non-specialists, local and international, can understand the effectiveness of the project outcomes. The appointee should have leadership qualities, and supervise research assistants and student helpers to conduct both quantitative and qualitative research. Depending on the job performance of the appointee, he/she may be given chances to write academic papers and research grants based on existing data and to do presentations at international conferences with financial support from the Centre. The appointment period can be 2 to 3 years commencing July 2024, depending on the appointee’s qualifications and experience.

Applicants should have a Doctoral Degree, for example, in Psychology, Social Sciences, Health Sciences, Mental Health, Education, or related disciplines, ideally plus several years of experience in conducting research. He/she should be able to use statistical programmes to perform advanced analyses, such as regression, ANOVAs, growth analysis, path analysis, and SEM. He/she should also have excellent writing skills in both Chinese and English, be research-oriented and self-motivated, and be able to accomplish tasks both independently and collaboratively. Experience in publishing in academic journals and evaluating programme effectiveness are advantages. Applicants with a Master’s Degree in related areas and substantial research experience may be considered for the position of Senior Research Assistant. Applicants for Senior Research Assistant should have a Master’s Degree, plus one-year post Master’s degree full-time working experience.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
