Post-doctoral Fellow in the Built Environment and Infectious Disease Modelling Working in the Health High Density Cities Lab

Applications are invited for appointment as Post-doctoral Fellow in the Built Environment and Infectious Disease Modelling Working in the Health High Density Cities Labin theFaculty of Architecture (Ref.: 516505), to commence as soon as possible for two years.

Applicants could come from either a public health, spatial epidemiology or infectious disease background, and be willing to develop skills in architectural performance modelling; or from building-scale modelling background with proven urban health research experience, and be willing to develop infectious diseases modelling skills.  Whatever the discipline, applicants should have a Ph.D. degree with a proven track record of original contributions in the rapidly growing cross-disciplinary field of healthy cities research with a demonstrable contribution to a significant body of knowledge within this field.  They should possess appropriate programming skills in statistical/mathematical modeling and GIS skills to analyse large complex datasets, and perform other duties as assigned. They should also possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills and have experience in collaborative research and knowledge sharing, with the ability to work independently as well as in a multidisciplinary team.  Prior experience in COVID-19 modelling in micro and macroscale urban setting (building and neighbourhood scale) with mathematical/statistical and spatial modelling skills would be an advantage. Agent-based modelling experience may also be an advantage.

The appointee will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research team to study building-scale and neighbourhood-scale modelling of infectious disease transmission in very high-density Hong Kong settings. He/She will work semi-independently under the supervision and mentorship of senior academic staff, and will have opportunities to present and publish their research findings to the peers.  He/She will contribute to a project team that spans the Faculty of Architecture, Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Medicine, and report directly to Professor Chris Webster and Dr. Chinmoy Sarkar.
