Assistant Dental Librarian (at the rank of Assistant Librarian II or Administrative Assistant II) in the University Libraries (Ref.: 525980) (to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance)

Applicants should possess 

  • A Bachelor's degree and a recognized professional qualification in Library and Information Science (e.g. M.L.S. or equivalent) with ideally, at least 5 years’ post-qualification working experience in academic libraries OR an advanced degree relevant to the position; A higher degree in a second subject relevant to the duties is preferable;
  • Good interpersonal skills, communication skills, crisis management and conflict resolution skills;
  • Oral and written ability to present ideas unambiguously and convincingly;
  • Ability to work independently and with initiative;
  • A collaborative spirit in working with staff within the Library and the University community at large;
  • Demonstrated leadership with the ability to delegate effectively, discharge duties to staff and set appropriate standards for the delivery of service/work;
  • Ability to motivate staff and foster a positive team environment;
  • Proven ability to plan and implement significant projects;
  • Competence in information services and resources, library instruction, research, analysis and interpretation; and
  • Knowledge of learning and research processes, and latest trends and developments in information technology and in particular those that apply to an educational environment.
  • Applicants with less professional experience in Library and Information Science may be considered for appointment at the rank of Administrative Assistant II.

    This position under the general direction of the Associate Librarian (Learning and Research Services) and works closely with the Assistant Medical Librarian.

    Duties include

    • Managing and leading the provision for Dental subject services;
    • Developing, facilitating access to, and evaluating Dental and Medical information resources responsive to needs;
    • Liaison work with the Faculty including understanding and addressing their needs and communicating the Libraries’ collections and services capabilities;
    • Providing learning and research support, library training, information services and advanced consultation services via face-to-face and online modes;
    • Coordinating and communicating with other units of the Libraries;
    • Collaborating with other partners on campus and beyond; and
    • Participation in library-wide projects and activities.
    • In addition, the appointee may be assigned other functional duties to provide central support to library-wide learning and research services. 

    A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary for Assistant Librarian II and 10% of basic salary for Administrative Assistant II.
