The JFKI History Department focuses on the history of the United States, Canada, and the Atlantic world, as well as the region's interaction with Africa, the Middle East, Australia, and the Pacific Rim. Topics covered include but are not limited to politics, diplomacy, minorities, women, economics, intellectual ideas, and law. Departmental courses cover the breadth of human experience across the entire North American continent as well as the region's interaction with the rest of the world - a complex subject matter that can be retraced in a wealth of archival sources, intricate literature, and diverse teaching styles.
Both student assistant positions are open in the summer semester 2024, interviews will likely take place in January 2024.
Job description:
Supporting the chair of the history department with the preparation of teaching and research: acquiring and preparing texts, proofreading and formatting documents, maintenance of both the e-Learning platform Blackboard and the dual-language department website (via CMS)
To a limited extent:
Receiving (English-speaking) guests of the department; supporting the organization and running of internationally attended lectures, conferences, and other events.
Desirable:
Students of North American Studies or History with a focus on North American History, very good research and library knowledge, very good English and German skills, computer and team skills, good communication and organization, reliability.
