The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf is seeking to fill the position of a

W2/3 professorship (W2 as a fixed-term position for 5 years with tenure track to a permanent W3 professorship) for Romance Linguistics (Italian and French or Spanish)

beginning 01 April 2025.

The future holder of the position is expected to fully represent Italian linguistics in research and teaching and to have a documented research profile in French or Spanish. A central research focus of the professorship is in the field of Italian linguistic and cultural history in the context of other Romance languages. Expertise in the area of systemic or variety-linguistic contrastive issues is also desirable. An active command of Italian and at least one other Romance language (Spanish or French) at a very high level as well tangible research contacts in the Italian-speaking world are also required.

Furthermore, internationally visible publications in the above-mentioned areas and experiences in acquiring competitive third-party funding are expected. Experience in university-level teaching in Romance Studies is also expected. A willingness to participate in the faculty's interdisciplinary study programmes and joint research projects as well as academic self-administration are required.

Conditions for employment are, in addition to general administrative conditions in accordance with § 36 of the North Rhine-Westphalia University Act (Gesetz über die Hochschulen des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen), an aptitude for teaching, exceptional competence in research, and additional scientific achievements.
