is to be filled within the framework of a joint appointment according to the Jülich model.

The applicant should have an international reputation in the research area of new methods in machine learning and advanced statistics for biomedical research. The scientific activity will focus on machine learning and high-dimensional statistical methods for biomedicine, including topics such as high-dimensional data, networks and “graphical models”, causal learning and latent variable models, and their interface with biomedical research. In addition to excellent technical expertise and a proven publication record, the candidate is expected to have experience in the successful acquisition of national and international third-party funding as well as many years of experience in independent research group management. Experience in teaching, scientific supervision of staff, methodological research, and interdisciplinary collaboration between the fields of machine learning, statistics, and biomedicine is required.

A connectivity to the research foci of the Faculty of Medicine and the University Hospital Bonn, other faculties of the University of Bonn, especially the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, as well as to non-university institutions is desired. The establishment and appointment of the professorship is intended to strengthen research and teaching in one of the research foci of the faculty (www.ukb.uni-bonn.de/forschung ). The appointment is made jointly by Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität and the DZNE Bonn. The successful candidate will be hired with a full professorship in a civil service position of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and will be on leave of absence at the DZNE. The position is permanent. The selection is carried out jointly by the DZNE and the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität.

Requirements for employment are a degree in computer science, engineering or mathematics or a related university degree, habilitation or equivalent scientific achievements as well as experience in teaching according to § 36 Hochschulgesetz NRW. The Faculty of Medicine of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn and the DZNE aim to increase the proportion of women among the scientific staff in research and teaching and therefore strongly encourage qualified female scientists to apply.
