We are inviting applications for the position of University Professor (m/f/d) of Medical Biostatistics (comparable to salary grade W2 LBesG)

The successful candidate will represent the entire field of Medical Biostatistics in research and teaching (including the training of young researchers and academic career development).

The position fulfills important cross-sectional tasks for the research strategy of the Mainz University Medical Center in the field of quantitative biomedicine and thus requires interdisciplinary cooperation, especially with local core research areas. It includes leadership of the division of Medical Biostatistics at the Institute of Medical Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Informatics (IMBEI).

Therefore, applicants must demonstrate staff management and communication skills and must possess a cooperative and interdisciplinary work attitude.

The position is to be filled as soon as possible. We are looking for a researcher with extensive experience and proven expertise in the field of biostatistical methods as well as biomedical monitoring of clinical research projects.

The position’s scientific tasks include the further development of the methodology of clinical and epidemiological studies. We also expect close cooperation with clinical and epidemiological researchers as well as with the Interdisciplinary Center of Clinical Studies (IZKS) when planning, implementing, and evaluating research projects.

This includes the coordination of statistical consulting services. Accordingly, excellent research achievements in the advertised field are required, evidenced through publications and competitive third-party funding.

Furthermore, the professor will be expected to teach courses in the Medicine and Dentistry programs as well as in the master’s program Epidemiology. Participation in the Mathematics, Biology or Applied Bioinformatics programs is possible.

In addition to teaching in regular degree programs and statistical consulting for researchers, the future holder of the position must be willing to get involved in the training of young researchers as well as in academic career development, e.g. in the context of structured doctoral programs (MainzDOC; TransMed), summer schools or workshops.

Accordingly, demonstrable teaching competence as well as a habilitation or alternative qualifications according to § 49 subsection 1 no. 4 a of the Hochschulgesetz are required. All remaining conditions for employment are defined in § 49 of the Hochschulgesetz of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate.

On principle, a private-law employment relationship with the University Medical Center is provided for. In the case of the successful applications of those who hold tenure for life as a civil servant, may continue to hold this position according to § 20 Abs. 2 Universitätsmedizingesetz.

The State of Rhineland-Palatinate, the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and the University Medical Center are advocates of intensive support for students and expect instructors to maintain an active presence at the University. Since the professor will teach in German and English language degree programs, proficiency in both languages is required.
