The group of Prof. Dr. Franc Meyer at the Faculty of Chemistry at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen welcomes applications for

two Ph.D. positions (all genders welcome)

in the field of metal-mediated cooperative small molecule transformations, with a focus on the bioinspired activation of dioxygen and dinitrogen. The positions are remunerated with 50 % E 13 TV-L with a limited contract of 3 years. The earliest starting date will be 01.08.2024.

Your profile
- you hold (or are in the process of concluding) a Master’s degree in Chemistry,
- you have very good English language skills,
- you are willing to work in an international team,
- you are experienced in organic ligand synthesis as well as in the synthesis of air sensitive transition metal complexes using Schlenk techniques or gloveboxes,
- you have a solid background in coordination chemistry and bioinorganic chemistry.
Basic German language skills and experience in the kinetic and mechanistic study of bioinspired 3d metal complexes are advantageous.

The successful applicants will be involved in the synthesis and comprehensive characterization of highly preorganized bimetallic complexes, and in the use of these complexes for the cooperative activation and transformation of small molecules towards catalytic applications, specifically the activation of dioxygen for the oxygenation of C-H substrates and the functionalization of dinitrogen.

We will provide a stimulating research environment in a diverse and interdisciplinary team as well as first-class facilities. PhD students will be enrolled in the Chemistry program of the Georg-August University School of Science (GAUSS) and will benefit from a wide variety of training courses.
