The successful applicant will cover research and teaching in the field of chemistry education. 

Appointment requirements are governed by Section 100 of the Berlin Higher Education Act (Berliner Hochschulgesetz). 

Successful candidates must hold a university degree in chemistry or chemistry education (teacher training/education degree). In addition, they must have an excellent doctoral degree and demonstrate outstanding and internationally recognized research achievements in the field of chemistry education. Candidates should have teaching experience at the university level, including international teaching experience where possible. They should be able to teach in German and have a strong command of the English language. Furthermore, experience with projects financed through third-party funding is required. Candidates should have direct experience working at schools (as per Section 100.3 of the Berlin Higher Education Act) and preferably have passed the second state teachers’ examination.

Along with the regular official duties of professors listed in Section 99 of the Berlin Higher Education Act, we expect the appointee to engage in the following activities:

The appointee’s research program should ideally touch upon experimental and conceptual approaches to research. They will also work together with other colleagues in chemistry and biochemistry on the teacher training program and are excepted to contribute to the Natlab program for school students in the areas of chemistry and biochemistry. In addition, they will work with the Dahlem School of Education (DSE) as well as other institutions involved in teacher training. The new professor should engage in interdisciplinary collaborations with different working groups, particularly those related to science education and educational research, as well as participate in existing and future research partnerships in the State of Berlin. They are also expected to address gender and diversity in their teaching.
