It is integrated into an extensive national and international network of universities and research institutes.

The ZEW is looking to fill the following position in the Research Department ‘International Finance and Financial Management’

Tenure-Track Researcher (f/m/d)

Banks and Financial Intermediation

As a successful applicant, you will contribute to the department’s scientific research agenda as well as its economic policy advising projects. The research area “Banks and Financial Intermediation” examines the role and behaviour of institutional players such as banks, insurance companies and financial advisors under changing market conditions. Demographic change, digitalisation and climate change are expected to lead to sustained changes in market rates, monetary policy and the structure of the financial system. In this context, important research questions need to be addressed: How will the new conditions impact banks’ business models, their lending and financing? Which effects will this, in turn, have on the real economy in general and households in particular? And what are the implications for the regulation of different financial institutions and markets?

The position is suitable for researchers who have completed or are about to complete their PhD in economics or finance, preferably on a topic in the area ´Banking/Financial Intermediation´. Candidates should have a strong interest for theory-based, empirical or experimental analyses, in-depth knowledge of econometrics and strong programming skills (e.g., stata, python or R). Candidates are not expected to teach but should be interested to develop the department’s research agenda, to contribute to an excellent publication performance and, based on rigorous academic research, to advise national and European authorities. On top of this, candidates should have excellent writing skills. Fluency in English is required; command of German is highly appreciated.

We offer a full-time, tenure-track position for an initial period of two years, with the possibility of extension for another three years. Remuneration is based on the TV-L statutory salary scale and its associated public sector benefits.

ZEW is offering the successful applicant the chance to take on an exciting and challenging role in a dynamic research environment as well as to carve out a position for themselves in a highly interesting area of research. ZEW’s vast international network of partner institutions as well as the great number of projects involving international cooperation also offer many exciting opportunities for future career development. The institute provides considerable support to its researchers in attaining post-doctoral qualifications, for example, by offering courses, granting sabbaticals as well as encouraging research visits at universities and research institutions abroad. Remuneration is based on the TV-L statutory salary scale (EG 13) and its associated public sector benefits.

IF INTERESTED, please submit your application (including a motivation letter, CV, diplomas 2 reference letters, and a writing sample which can be, for example, a published paper, a working paper, or your PhD thesis) citing the reference code I-FM_08-21 via the online application form on our website by September 30, 2021. We consider applications until the position is filled, and encourage you to submit your application as soon as possible.
