The Technical University of Munich (TUM) invites applications for the position of Tenure Track Assistant Professor in »Synthetic Biology« to begin as soon as possible. The position is a W2 fixed-term (6 year) tenure-track professorship with the possibility for promotion to a tenured W3.

Scientific Environment

The professorship will be assigned to the TUM Campus Straubing for Biotechnology and Sustainability with additional affiliation to the TUM School of Natural Sciences or TUM School of Life Scienc-es. The Straubing Campus provides a dynamic academic environment with a rapidly growing number of faculty, students and staff, as well as laboratory and research facilities. We are a leading Eu-ropean center in the field of Bioeconomy focusing on environmentally sound biotechnological and chemical conversion technologies. The research and teaching activities benefit from the scientific environment of the TUM departments, all of which have potential and promising cross-references to the field of Bioeconomy.

Responsibilities


The responsibilities include research and teaching as well as the promotion of early-career scientists. We seek to appoint an expert in the research area of Synthetic Biology with a focus on high-throughput technology development in fields such as analytics or DNA-writing. Teaching responsibilities include courses in the university’s bachelor and master programs, explicitly in the interdisci-plinary program Chemical Biotechnology. Participation in the development of the SynBiofoundry@TUM is expected. Qualifications We are looking for candidates who have demonstrated initial scientific achievements and the capacity for independent research at the highest international level. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification, as well as pedagogical aptitude, are prerequisites. Substantial research experience abroad, full commitment to do interdisciplinary research, and the ability to lead cooperative research projects and to attract third-party funding (e.g. DFG, EU, AiF, Industry) are expected.
