The Technical University of Munich (TUM) invites applications for two positions: Tenure Track Assistant Professor in »Biosystems Chemistry of Natural Products« and Tenure Track Assistant Professor in »AI-Guided Protein Design« to begin as soon as possible. Both positions are a W2 fixed-term (6 year) tenure-track professorship with the possibility for promotion to a tenured W3.

Scientific Environment

The professorships will be assigned to the TUM School of Natural Sciences. They will contribute to the formation of an interdisciplinary research platform on drug design integrating advanced methods in chemical synthesis, analytics, biochemistry, structural biology, and computation.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities include research and teaching as well as the promotion of early-career scientists. We seek to appoint an expert in the research area of Biosystems Chemistry of Natural Products with a focus on compound classes relevant for drug design and biological molecular communication. Focus areas could include synthetic methodologies for anti-infective, anti-cancer or anti-viral agents, as well as genome mining techniques. Furthermore, we seek to appoint an expert in the research area of AI-Guided Protein Design, ideally with a combined computational and experimental approach, and a focus on de novo design of functional proteins, e.g., using model-driven methods, AI/deep learning and experimental validation for potential biomedical applications. Teaching responsibilities include courses in the university’s bachelor and master programs.

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates who have demonstrated initial scientific achievements and the capacity for independent research at the highest international level. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification, as well as pedagogical aptitude, are prerequisites.
