The German Human Genome-Phenome Archive (GHGA) is a project of the NFDI with the goal to archive human high-throughput sequencing data and make them available for secondary research. The University of Cologne is one of six GHGA data hubs that will store genomic data. To coordinate the installation and operation of the required storage infrastructure at the GHGA data hubs as well as the harmonization of this infrastructure throughout the project, the University of Cologne looks for a Technical Project Coordinator. Additionally, the implementation and integration into the locally available infrastructure is part of the responsibilities. Based at the Regional Computing Center of the University of Cologne, you will work closely with the departments for high performance computing, operation, and network. You will also join the GHGA data hub operations team and lead the development of the different sites towards a harmonized GHGA storage infrastructure.

YOUR TASKS

  • Conduct research about new methods for secure storage, processing, and reuse of highly sensitive research data in a Germany wide resource network while considering regional data protection rules
  • Coordinate the installation and operation of the GHGA storage infrastructure at the six GHGA data hubs
  • Identify harmonization possibilities concerning hardware and software in cooperation with the GHGA data hubs
  • Contribute to the relevant GHGA working groups to develop a concept of the technical and organizational framework for the infrastructure at the data hubs
  • Develop a concept for the GHGA infrastructure at the Cologne data hub and manage the implementation
  • Implementation and integration into the locally available infrastructure

YOUR PROFILE

  • MSc in Computer Science or in the natural sciences with several years of experience in IT administration and conceptual design of similar infrastructure
  • Experience in the coordination of scientific projects
  • Knowledge about storage systems (Oject Storage, NAS)
  • Experience with server infrastructures
  • Fluent English, spoken and written
  • Open-minded and motivated to push the tasks
  • Interested in scientific projects in the field of genomics

Helpful but not required:

  • Knowledge about data protection and IT security
  • Knowledge about Kubernetes and OpenStack

The position is available as soon as possible on a full-time basis (39,83 hours per week). It is initially limited to 30.09.2025. If the applicant meets the relevant wage requirements and personal qualifications, the salary is based on remuneration group 13 TV-L of the pay scale for the German public sector.
