Offer Description

The Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics in Dresden, Germany, is an international research institute focused on cell and developmental biology. Currently about 500 employees are working at the institute, where half are from abroad with 53 nations represented. MPI-CBG has twice been awarded the title “Best Place to Work” (Academia and postdocs) by the journal “The Scientist”.

The group of Dr. Meritxell Huch is looking for Technical Assistant(BTA/MTA/CTA or equivalent) (m/f/d) for molecular biology and advanced cell culture work.

Dr. Meritxell Huch's research group is dedicated to gaining a mechanistic understanding of the principles governing the proliferation and differentiation of adult organs and tissues. They achieve this through the utilization of both organoid and animal models with the ultimate goal of comprehending organogenesis. Dr. Huch is a pioneer in the development of organoid models for non-intestinal tissues, having published seminal papers on stomach, liver, and pancreas organoids. The research team is highly interdisciplinary, international, and collaborative, with English serving as the primary working language in the Huch lab and the institute.

Job description
We are currently seeking a technician to join our collaborative project with Prof. Daniel Stange's research group at Technische Universität Dresden. In this role, you will closely collaborate with researchers from both teams.

Your responsibilities will include

  • collection and preparation of primary and metastatic tissue from the gastrointestinal tract and liver
  • conduct liver perfusion procedures
  • generate organoids from these tissues, assisting in their expansion, and maintaining a biobank.
  • perform standard molecular and cell biology techniques, such as qPCR, next-generation sequencing, immunohistochemistry (IHC), and immunofluorescence (IF), to characterize the organoids
  • mouse work and handling
  • liaise with surgery, pathology and molecular laboratories
  • maintain the laboratory database of human tissue and organoid tissues

As a technician, you will not only contribute to experiments but also handle various organizational and maintenance tasks within the groups. Furthermore, you will play a key role in coordinating patient follow-up.

Your qualifications

  • training as a technical assistant (MTA/BTA/CTA) or equivalent qualification
  • strong command of molecular and cellular biology techniques
  • self-motivated and enthusiastic disposition
  • strong organizational skills, demonstrating flexibility and reliability
  • proven ability to work effectively in a team
  • proficiency in both German and English languages
  • experience in isolating, cultivating, and manipulating cell lines, primary cells, and organoids is advantageous
  • proven ability to document and keep databases up to date is highly advantageous
  • familiarity with laboratory animal handling is advantageous
