The Kiel Institute for the World Economy sees itself as the research institute for Globalization in Germany. Our researchers examine the driving forces and consequences of international economic activities, the integration and disintegration of global markets, as well as the possibilities and limits to political actions in open economies.

The research center “Global Commons and Climate Policy” together with the Research Center “Innovation and International Competition” at the Kiel Institute for the World Economy seeks, as soon as possible a, 

student/research assistant (m/f/d)

with a background in economics or social sciences (up to 40h/month).

We expect:

  • Enthusiasm for topics on climate and/or innovation economics,
  • exemplary academic performance,
  • excellent English skills (German skills are beneficial but not necessary),
  • the ability to quickly familiarize yourself with new topics and tasks,
  • commitment, independent work, flexibility, and team skills,
  • proficiency in Microsoft office (esp. MS Excel, PowerPoint and Word),
  • preferably, the ability to work with Stata (or other statistical software like Python or R).

Tasks among others:

  • General project assistance,
  • general support in developing research articles and reports,
  • literature research and revision,
  • research, cleaning, and analysis of data.

This position is part of a third-party project financed by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) on the role of research and innovation measures on climate change mitigation (duration: 08/2022 to 07/2025). We are looking for a research assistance working for up to 40 hours per month. Initially, the position is limited to 6 months with the possibility of an extension. The hourly compensation for student assistants (without a Bachelor’s degree) is 13.00€/h, for research assistants (with Bachelor’s degree) 14.00€/h.

Applicants should ideally be at the beginning of their Master’s degree (in economics or social sciences with a focus on environmental economics or politics). Bachelor students can equally apply if they are towards the end of their studies and stay in Kiel for their Master’s.
