The Proteome Center Tuebingen (PCT, headed by Prof. Macek) develops and applies methods for mass spectrometry-based quantitative analysis of proteins and posttranslational modifications, using state-of-the-art methodology and instrumentation. We are also part of the university teaching team, with several courses (related to nucleotide and protein sequencing) for bachelor and master students. The PCT invites applications for the position: 

HiWi in Bioinformatics/System Administration (m/f/d)

The position is available for approximately 30h/month for a period of six months (with a possibility for renewal).

Primary responsibilities:
The tasks of the successful candidate will include:

  • Help the PCT lab members with recurrent IT issues (e.g. software installation/update, OS installation)
  • Development and application of bioinformatics tools (R or Python) to help with the analysis of mass spectrometry data 
  • Helping with the teaching of the practical course “Introduction to Nanopore sequencing”, which includes a bioinformatics component 

Qualifications:
The candidate should attend a bioinformatics program or a related field that includes background in statistics and computational biology. Knowledge of the R and/or Python programming language will be an advantage. Good communication skills and proficiency in English language are required.
