Göttingen State and University Library (SUB Göttingen) is the central library of Göttingen University. It is one of the largest academic libraries in Germany and responsible for various regional tasks in literature provision. It leads and engages in multiple national and international projects in the areas of digital libraries, research infrastructures, data science, research software engineering, and various aspects of research data management.
We are looking for a Software Engineer to join our interdisciplinary software development team. Our software engineers work in local, national and international projects. The team collaborates closely with other libraries and scholars of various disciplines to create innovative digital solutions and services. The position will be on a fixed-term contract for two years, with potential extension to three years or more depending on project approval. The starting gross salary is expected to be around 51.000€ p.a. (depending on qualifications and experience).

Your responsibilities

  • design and implement user-facing software and APIs
  • extract, transform and load big chunks of data (ETL)
  • contribute to code guidelines and architectural designs
  • participate in building an efficient team
  • perform tests and code revisions
  • create reusable software modules
  • formulate new project ideas and help the team with project related work
Your qualities
  • a degree in computer science (e.g. M. Sc.) or any related subject
  • good programming and problem-solving skills
  • familiarity with either Python, PHP or Java, or affinity for creating frontend applications using JavaScript, HTML and CSS
  • time for well-written code, testing and documentation
  • enthusiasm for working on a team and collaborating with stakeholders, product owners, scrum masters, and other programmers
  • good command of English and basic German skills
