The University of Göttingen is currently inviting applications for the position of a

Software Developer (all genders welcome)

Fixed-term (2.5 years; possible extension for another 3 years) at Research Assistant level (TV-L E13, 100%)

The position is part of the new “Digital Geochemical Data Infrastructure” (DIGIS [https://www.uni-goettingen.de/de/digital+geochemistry+infrastructure/643369.html ]) research group at the University of Göttingen, supported by a cluster of four research projects funded through the DFG’s Scientific Library Services and Information Systems (LIS) programme [https://www.dfg.de/en/research_funding/programmes/infrastructure/lis/index.html ]. An extension of the positions for further three years is planned, pending excellent performance of the DIGIS project and successful follow-up grant application.

The aim of DIGIS is to develop and maintain the highly successful and well-established geochemical database GEOROC [http://georoc.mpch-mainz.gwdg.de/georoc/database ], prepare new means of data harvesting and data entry as well as to stabilize the web-based connectivity with other existing geochemical databases, such as EarthChem [https://www.earthchem.org] of the IEDA (Interdisciplinary Earth Data Alliance). DIGIS also forms an integral part of the current NFDI4Earth [https://www.nfdi4earth.de ] consortium.

Project description and responsibilities:
You will be responsible for the implementation and adaption of an existing data model for data entry and curation of geochemical data for the GEOROC database. This includes development and administration of a new web application platform (using OOP-PHP and DRUPAL) for GEOROC as well as the development of an API that links the database with independently developed data analysis and visualisation tools. Further responsibilities include the collaboration in the development of a digital data archiving system for rock samples that is linked to GEOROC via the International Geo Sample Number (IGSN) standard.

Qualifications:
Master’s degree (or equivalent work experience) in the fields of IT-technology, Informatics, or related fields. Advanced experience and programming skills in a higher programming language (such as OOP-PHP and Ajax) are essential. Basic experience with databases and their IT infrastructure (SQL) is required. Excellent written and spoken communication in English as well as being an active team player are mandatory.
