The Senckenberg Society for Nature Research was founded in 1817 and is one of the most important research institutions around biological diversity. At its eleven sites throughout Germany, scientists from over 40 nations conduct cutting-edge research on an international scale. The company's headquarter is in the Main metropolis of Frankfurt in the heart of Germany. It is also home to one of Senckenberg's best-known facilities, the Senckenberg Natural History Museum.

The Senckenberg Gesellschaft für Naturforschung, headquartered in Frankfurt am Main, is looking for the following person to join at the Frankfurt site starting as soon as possible

Social Media Officer / Content Creator (m/f/d)Ocean Species Alliance (SOSA)

(full time/part time)

The Senckenberg Ocean Species Alliance (SOSA) project combines marine biodiversity research, species conservation, and science communication within one project. This interdisciplinary project is composed of three pillars, the Discovery Unit, Red Listing Unit and the Engagement Unit, whose tasks are tightly interlinked. The Discovery Unit will apply a new model for biodiversity work by providing taxonomic services to users inside and outside of Senckenberg. http://sosa.senckenberg.de .

The task of the Engagement Unit is to inform and inspire the public. With creative and visually stunning content, the beauty and vulnerability of invertebrate organisms will be brought to the public and awareness for conservation efforts will be raised.

Your tasks:

  • Develop creative and inspiring content for social media channels (Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, Facebook) and website
  • Create and curate content in multiple formats (text, sound, image, video) and press releases
  • Support in-person outreach activities
  • Supervise social media channels and community management
  • Monitor and evaluate social media activities based on defined KPIs
  • Contribute to ongoing development of SOSA as a brand, with relevant public outreach and social media strategies

Essential skills:

  • Enthusiasm for marine biology, biodiversity and species conservation
  • Strong experience in content creation and storytelling
  • Good sense for social media trends
  • Confidence in using modern content creation tools
  • Creativity, courage and willingness to cross boundaries

Desirable skills:

  • Academic qualification (BSc or MSc degree) in communication or media studies, public relations or comparable areas
  • Knowledge of German language (not strictly required)
  • International view of social media content and trends
  • Experience in Science Communication and Public Engagement

Volume of employment: Full time (40 weekly working hours), part time options are available

Type of contract: Employment shall start as soon as possible and will be initially limited to a 2-year fixed-term contract; an extension is intended

Salary: According to the German collective agreement TV-H (pay grade E 9 - 11) depending on your expertise and previous experience.
