The Department of Video Communication and Applications has played a key role in the development of three generations of video coding standards. What you will do

  • Conduct research on new methods for image and video compression based on newest multimedia technologies and standards

  • Present your research work at scientific conferences, trade shows etc.

  • Publish your research work

  • Optionally: Participate in international standardization activities at ITU and ISO such as JVET und MPEG

  • Optionally: Initiating and pursuing potential spin-off activities in case of relevant application scenarios

What you bring to the table

  • PhD degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Electrical Engineering or a related field

  • Excellent knowledge in C/C++

  • Experience with VVC Test Model (VTM) reference software preferred

  • In-depth knowledge in the field of data-compression or signal-processing preferred

  • Creativity and interest in new technologies

  • Team spirit, independent way of working and interest in interdisciplinary cooperation

  • Excellent spoken and written English

  • Willingness to travel to conferences and optionally standardization meetings

The position is initially limited to 2 years. An extension is explicitly desired.

The weekly working time is 39 hours. This position is also available on a part-time basis.
