For the Department of Fish Biology, Fisheries and Aquaculture of IGB in Berlin-Friedrichshagen at Lake Müggelsee we are inviting applications for the position of a scientific coordinator and investigator in a multidisciplinary, federally funded, project, HaffStör, in the Lower Oder River and the Szczecin Lagoon area, starting on 1 May 2024 or shortly thereafter and limited until 31 December 2026.

The work comprises the coordination of the recovery measures and the assessment of anthropogenic and biological impacts on the population under establishment with a focus on Baltic sturgeons in the Lower Oder and Szczecin Lagoon area. The candidate is responsible for the technical coordination of the work packages on rearing, monitoring, telemetry and assessment of fisheries effort, for the communication with stakeholders and the planning and preparation of discussion panels.


Your tasks

  • To coordinate and support the research on rearing, release and monitoring
  • Establish contact with stakeholders in the region in close collaboration with other working groups in the project
  • Collect bycatch information
  • Develop communication strategies and information packages for stakeholder involvement
  • Plan and conduct stakeholder workshops
  • Support the project leader in reporting tasks and communication with funding agencies and the public

  • Holding a master degree in biology, fisheries sciences, or a related field with focus on fish biology or aquatic ecology, or equivalent education with a focus on social sciences
  • Good communication skills and ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Practical experiences with communication planning, stakeholder involvement, and project coordination

  • Interest and ability to collaborate with practitioners is required
  • The will and ability to travel for field work
  • Driving license, boating license

Salary is paid according to the German salary scheme for the public sector (TVöD Bund). Depending on the personal qualifications and the tasks assigned, the position will be paid up to E 13. It is a full-time position with 39 working hours per week. It is a fixed-term project position, limited until 31 December 2026. Part time work with a minimum of 65% of the full position is possible if the scope of the project can be ensured.
