The TUM Central Institute for Agricultural Sciences Hans Eisenmann - Forum (HEF) is seeking a project manager to provide subordinate coordination of agricultural use case research projects and to implement data structures in collaboration with the FAIRagro Data Steward Service Center.

The World Agricultural Systems Center - Hans Eisenmann-Forum for Agricultural Sciences (HEF) is one of the Corporate Research Centers of the Technical University of Munich (TUM). The HEF (consisting of the HEF office and 28 member chairs) networks all agricultural science-oriented chairs and institutions at TUM, supports collaboration with other agricultural science institutions on campus, initiates research projects, provides technical expertise, and is the visible contact for agricultural sciences inside and outside TUM.
FAIRagro is a consortium in the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) in Germany. The goals and tasks of FAIRagro include the development of a networked research data management for agrosystems research and the establishment of an interoperable, scalable, quality-assured and user-friendly research data infrastructure taking into account the FAIR principles. Through FAIRagro, research data will be discoverable (F), accessible (A), interoperable (I), and reusable (R) by other researchers in the future. The Data Steward Service Center (DSSC) is the central facility within FAIRagro for harmonizing data management and anchoring it in the scientific community. The DSSC organizes the continuous exchange of knowledge and experience in the field of research data management (FDM) with other institutions, e.g. through trainings, channels user requests from the community to the Data Stewards as proven experts in the field of agricultural FDM. We are looking for a scientist (f/m/d) data steward agrar from March 1, 2023 on for an initial period of 5 years at the site in Weihenstephan/Freising near Munich.


Your tasks:
  • You will coordinate and manage collaborations with the agricultural science use case research projects and provide a bridge to the network of data stewards in the DSSC
  • As part of the DSSC, you will answer questions from the agricultural science community related to FDM
  • You will support the publication of domain-specific research data along FAIR principles and capture user needs related to FDM
  • You support the use of data
  • You organize and deliver training (e.g., workshops on data publishing, standardized metadata, DOI assignment, long-term archiving, data collection, and FAIR)

Your qualifications:
  • University degree, PhD preferred, in a scientific field clearly related to TUM-HEF research.
  • You have a firm understanding of agrosystem data, their scales (e.g., crops, crop trials, field and landscapes), and various data formats (e.g., farm and management data, time series, long-term field experiments, geospatial data such as remote sensing)
  • Excellent knowledge of research data management including geospatial data with knowledge of metadata and data publishing standards
  • High level of initiative, excellent communication and teamwork skills in an interdisciplinary environment
  • Very good knowledge English and at least intermediate German, both written and spoken
