The German Heart Center of the Free State of Bavaria associated to the Technical University of Munich is a clinic with international reputation and a state of the art technical and medical equipment. The Department of Experimental Cardiology is seeking a Scientist Cloud Computing - Bioinformatics (m/f/d) Health Research Cloud setup and collaborative Multi-OMICs Data Analysis You will be part of DigiMed Bayern (https://www.digimed-bayern.de/en.html), the lighthouse project in Bavaria to enable P4-medicine (predictive, preventive, personalized, participatory), which is one of the world's most promising developments for improved, holistic and efficient healthcare. As a part of the German Heart Center research team, you will drive research in cardiovascular disease and work closely with our partners at the Leibniz Supercomputing Center (LRZ), running one of the fastest computers worldwide. Together we are in the middle of building a long-term and internationally prestigious cutting-edge secure health research cloud to enable collaborative biomedical research.
Major tasks:
- Key person to oversee, drive, build, administrate and deploy core data and software building blocks of the Health Research Cloud
- Interact with a strong multi-site team of renowned bioinformaticians, scientists and infrastructure specialists
- Deploy, operate and scale our local data lake in the research cloud
- Improve established in-house pipelines for multi-omics and clinical data
- Deploy existing pipelines and data sets in the cloud setting
- Interact with collaboration partners to assess and then implement requirements for the centralized Health Research Cloud
- Train project partners to successfully perform their analyses in our cloud
What you bring:
- Keen interest in contributing to public health at the interface of informatics and biomedical research
- University degree in computational biology, (bio-)informatics or related field
- Doctoral degree in one of the above-mentioned fields with expertise in software development and management of medical data (omics data, imaging data and clinical data) would be a plus. Alternatively, based on relevant experience, it would also be possible to carry out a PhD Thesis.
- Experience in at least one of the following programming languages: python, R, java
- Experience with database technologies (SQL, mongoDB, neo4j, …)
- Experience in cloud based or HPC systems (e.g. OpenStack, workload managers, etc.)
- Excellent English language skills (spoken and written)
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team
