starting the next possible date for a period of 3 years. In case of best fulfilment of the requirements especially in scientific performance such as publications and other scientific achievements, experiences in other institutes and abroad as well as positive external review an immediate permanent position is possible. Otherwise, a tenure-track procedure (up to 3 years with extension option up to 5 years) is intended to develop the missing competencies. The prerequisite for this is, that qualification times according to § 2 WissZeitVG are still available or a temporary employment based on § 14 Abs.2 TzBfG is possible.

Who are we?

The IOW is an independent research institute of the Leibniz Association. Our research focus is on the coastal and marginal seas, especially the Baltic Sea. The staff of the four sections Physical Oceanography and Instrumentation, Marine Chemistry, Biological Oceanography and Marine Geology works interdisciplinary within a joint research programme.

What will be your tasks?

In this research focus, the IOW will investigate shallow coastal waters in all their physical and biogeochemical diversity and complexity. For this purpose, measurement sites with different instruments, landers and moorings will be established as well as field and numerical model experiments and on-site observations will be performed. The goal is to gain a comprehensive understanding of the shallow water system, to incorporate the findings into models, and to assess the role of coastal ecosystems for the Baltic Sea as a whole.

Therefore we have the following eight scientist positions available. For a detailed description of each position and the individual requirements for applicants, please visit the websites listed below:
