The newly founded Data Science group led by Lisa Beinborn is looking for two academic researchers to join our team. This is the description for the PostDoc position, the PhD description can be found here. 

Our Research
Our group is part of the Campus Institute Data Science (CIDAS). Our research is interdisciplinary at its core and we cooperate closely with colleagues from other faculties (e.g., psychology, humanities). We take a human-centered perspective on natural language processing research and focus on the following topics:

  • the cognitive plausibility, interpretability, and generalization capabilities of language processing models
  • cross-lingual transfer and typological diversity in multilingual models
  • exploring how language processing differences between humans and computers can guide the development of more efficient models
  • language technology for education (e.g., readability and simplification, exercise generation, learner modeling)
​Your Responsiblities 

In this position, you have the chance to further develop your academic profile and work towards a habilitation. You are expected to: 

  • conduct innovative research on one of the topics mentioned above and initiate cooperation (both within the group and with researchers from other groups). 
  • communicate research results in peer-reviewed proceedings and journals and present them at international research conferences. 
  • participate in teaching and examination (4 teaching hours per week during the semester).
  • take an active role in curriculum development and supervising students. 
  • participate in further development of the research group, for example, by establishing workflows for eye-tracking or annotation experiments and contributing to operational management. ​
  • participate in the development of grant proposals. 
Your Profile

The ideal candidate

  • has obtained a very good PhD in computational linguistics, computer science, cognitive science, machine learning, or a related discipline.
  • has developed a research profile in natural language processing research (indicated by high-quality publications and other academic activities)
  • has good knowledge of at least one of the topics outlined above and can independently acquire and process new knowledge. 
  • is a team player with good communication skills and an interdisciplinary mindset.
  • has obtained advanced analytical and programming skills and is committed to further developing them (experience with large-scale experiments on GPUs is beneficial).
  • shows excellent command of written and spoken English (knowledge of German is beneficial, interest in additional languages is a plus).
  • has obtained teaching experience and is willing to improve their didactic competence.
